Why We Reclaim

The Benefits of Using Reclaimed Wood:

Unquestionably the best wood comes from old-growth trees. Trees harvested from old-growth or first growth forests had to compete for space and light, so they grew more slowly. This is why old-growth timber is harder, denser and more stable than younger trees. These trees were also very tall and large in diameter, yielding large quantities of high grade lumber and many times longer lengths were demanded in early construction projects.

Old-growth timber has incredible beauty in its figure and patina. It is tight grained and has fewer knots, for a more solid structure.

In using reclaimed Orphanwood timber you also get history. History of centuries old forests as well as signs of its previous use in original construction projects.

Sometimes called reclaimed wood, antique timbers, antique wood, salvaged lumber, recycled wood, reclaimed timbers, antique flooring, re-milled, or vintage, our wood is of remarkable quality, structural integrity, as well as a sound environmental choice. Orphanwood and you can help preserve our natural resources. It's a great alternative to today's fast paced, wasteful mismanagement of our resources.
